INTRODUCTION
A square nut has four sides. It is also called as four sided nut. There are various ways in which it is very useful which will be explained below.
Compared to hex nut it is having greater surface area and I assume that reader is from technical background they will definitely know that higher the surface area higher will be the resistance. For non technical background you can check here.
Also more the resistance will also make more resistible in tightening as well as loosening.
Square nut is typically used along with square headed bolt and flat washers.
Square shape made it possible to form a tool in order to tighten a nut. Other reason is wrenching degree . Square nut wrenching degree is 90 and for hex nut it is 60. So hex nut overcomes.
Advantages
- Higher surface area.
- Used as a gauge to measure the position of nut.
Application
- In Furniture.
- In rail channel to prevent turning when force is applied.
